All my music reviews over the last 6 months or so have been, on a scale of 1 to scathing, closer to scathing. On the way home though, I cranked up the new Thievery Corporation album on my iPod and was pleasantly surprised. For the first few tracks, I thought the sound had changed a little - but it was just that the first couple of tracks were closer to hip-hop than the WDC duo had done in the past, combined with the weird EQ settings both on my iPod and my car's god-forsaken stereo. But the whole of the album, start to finish, is another solid entry point into the trip-hop realm thanks to our friends at Thievery. It's not the must-have that The Mirror Conspiracy was, but it is on par with all of their follow-up albums. And that's all I've asked for during the last 6 months - more of the same. If you're a fan of TC, grab The Cosmic Game - it won't let you down.
